Envirothon ~ Wildlife




 

 

Students should be able to:

 

1. Identify common wildlife of the United States, especially California.

2. Identify the role of wildlife in an ecosystem.


3. Be able to identify bio-parts and wildlife signs (tracks, feathers, fur, hair, tooth structures, etc).


4. Identify basic wildlife survival needs and the relationship to habitat.


5. Describe predator-prey relationships and give examples.


6. Describe food chains and food web processes and cite examples.


7. Describe specific animal structure as it relates to its role served in the environment.


8. Describe specific adaptations of wildlife to their environment and their role in the ecosystem.


9. Identify common animal habitats of the United States, especially California.


10. Evaluate the stability of major habitats for a designated species.  Describe the habitat needs of the species. 


11. Describe ways habitat can be improved for specific species by knowing their habitat requirements.

12. Describe factors that limit or enhance population growth.   Be able to discuss the concept of carrying capacity and limiting factors.

13. Identify various ways the public and wildlife managers can help in the protection, conservation management, and enhancement of wildlife populations.


14. Describe potential impact of the introduction of non-native species.


15. Discuss the concepts of carrying capacity and limiting factors.
